Opened in 1972, the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Dentistry’s original building wasn’t equipped to accommodate the future technological advances in dental care. Designed to enhance the patient experience, the new Center for Oral Health Care & Research building affords students the best in oral health care education, providing hands-on training in a multi-specialty care atmosphere that closely reflects the real-world environment of dentistry. The center ensures the University’s ability to obtain and conduct clinical research and serve more patients with features including a dental surgery operating room, an overnight recovery area, and more than 400 dental chairs.
Zero/Six was contacted directly by The University of Texas System Office of Facilities Planning and Construction (OFPC) to evaluate the exterior envelope during the design and construction phases of the project. Our services included evaluation and recommendations on the foundation waterproofing, exterior walls, windows, curtain walls, and roofing systems selected by the Project Architect. The project required additional forensic investigation by Zero/Six for defects with the installation requirements by the roof manufacturer. The Zero/Six team worked collaboratively with the Architect/Engineer team, Owner’s representatives and Contractor to ensure all issues were promptly addressed and resolved.
